I have pension application from the Creek Indian Wars in AL for a Miles GAINUS(GANUS, GURGANUS) that states his birth place was in Onslow Co NC. We have had a hard time figuring out where because the wording "that he was born at" on the application is followed by difficult to decipher writing which LOOKS like Cape Fair Court House as the place of birth in 1817. Do you know of a Cape in Onslow Co. by that name in that era or know who might? I have heard of a Cape Fear NC but do not know where that is or if it is in Onslow Co. The handwriting looks to have a dotted letter "i" in that word Fair so I do not think it is the word Fear. Miles's mother was Susannah Mashburn born about 1794, ( father Thomas Mashburn) and John Gurganus who were married there in Onslow Co in 1815. Apparently by about 1832 Susannah was a widow with children, Miles being the oldest son. Guardianship report papers listing Joshua Foy as guardian and the children of Susannah are in hand. We believe that the Gurganus's were near the New River area. Is there a Cape ? there? If you do not know, who would you recommend I check with?

I saw your listings and was curious if you had anything pertaining to my search for the line of John STEPHENS/STEVENS> Willoughby Stephens>Ira Stephens m. Cecelia A.(Sidder) Parker, they were from the Onslow Co. area. I know they were kin to the Littleton's, Justice, Yopp, Wilkins, Williams & Hall families. If you can provide me with any details on any of these folks it would be wonderful. I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Do you know whether or not there are records or a cemetery of Maxwells in Onslow County? My ancestors migrated to Twiggs County, Ga. in the early 1800s(possibly as early as 1805). Family legend has it that they migrated from Jones County but I have not been able to locate a record of their existence there.--Do you know of any Maxwells in an adjacent or nearby county? The earliest names I am looking for are William MAXWELL and possibly his father Hugh Maxwell. Thank you so very much for your time and attention. Sincerely,

Lott FOSTER and Eliza KING moved from Onslow Co., NC between 1820 and 1830 to Hardeman Co., TN. They along with several sons including Amos (b.1804 Wilmington, NC) settled in Rogers Springs. I can't seem to find anything before 1810 on Lott. I have no idea who his parents were or where he was born. Anyone have any info on this family? Hope to hear from someone soon! Thanks, Sandy

I am looking for the sons of Lott Hoffman/Huffman and Christopher Hoffman/Huffman, Jr. In the 1810 Census neither had children. In the 1820 Census, both had 2 sons each. Christopher and Lott were the sons of Christopher Hoffman/Huffman and the brothers of Jacob Hoffman/Huffman. If anyone can confirm that William Hoffman/Huffman (Born 1812 in Onslow County) is the son of either Christopher Jr. or Lott (or even their brother James who died in 1814), please email me. I would be very grateful for the information.
