Can anyone assist in information on the Enon Chapel Cementary that was moved to parts unknown from Onslow County around 1942. My husbands GGF Robert Sharp HOWARD, Jr. was buried there in 1930. The cementary was moved so that a road could be built for Camp Lejeune. He was married to Lydia Anne GILLIKIN in Onslow County but I do not have any dates. His father Robert Sharp HOWARD, was also buried in Onslow County, place and year unknown and he was married to Hattie HOWARD (last name not know if maiden). Robert Sharp HOWARD, Jr was an only child (known) and had 2 boys and 2 girls. Robert Watson HOWARD, Ernest Weaver HOWARD, Annie Mae HOWARD, and Lena HOWARD. If anyone has info please send to dhoward@visi.net

a#GURGANUSGURGANUSa#GURGANYGURGANY posted by Ray Gurganus on Sunday, April 5, 1998

I am researching GURGANUS genealogy, and I have heard references to some research that has already been done. I'm now in search of this research, hoping that it is available in someone's library somewhere.

I quote from an email I received: "Several years ago a member of our family did a very thouough search and we do know that the family name started in Jamestown VA with James and Nicholas GURGANY (spelled that way then) who were in the first General Assembly in 1619. I'm reading thru that info now. Obviously your family tree starts here also. This search was done by Ina Kuralt..."

And in a second email: "All I have is a three page summary of this information that was given to me several years ago by my father, and the research was done many years ago....don't even know if the people who did this are still alive. As I understand it the research was done in the archives at the local county court house in Onslow Co."

That's all that he had, and all that I have related to this specific research. If anyone could help me locate a copy of this work, I and many GURGANUS cousins would be grateful.

My great-grandmother Amanda Ann EUBANKS b. 4/6/1834 married Josiah KELLUM, 3/20/1859. Josiah died in the Battle of Antietam 9/17/1862. I am looking for Amanda's family: father, "White" Eubanks, mother Anny or Amy. They lived in the Swansboro district in the 1850 census. Also am looking for Josiah's family and have no info at all. Also am looking for my great-grandmother on the other side, Rachel Ann HUMPHREY, b. about 1838. Brother Martin Van Buren Humphrey. Martin died in the Civil War. They lived with John and Ann Runnels Parker, 1850 census. Then she lived with James & Rachel Fonville (aunt & uncle), 1860 census. Rachel Ann Humphrey married William Trott, 12/8/1857. 2nd husband was George "White" Hawkins. 1880 census shows them living in the Swansboro district. I have not been able to trace EUBANKS, HUMPHREY, KELLUM, OR HAWKINS any further back. Would also like to know where Rachel Ann Humphrey Trott Hawkins is buried.

Subject: Joseph MORGAN son of Ann BARBEE MORGAN who married Dr. Thomas CARRUTHERS, 1739 Hello, have you any records on Joseph Morgan in early Onslow Co.? I believe that I may descend from one of the sons of Ann Barbee Morgan, possibly Joseph Morgan, b.ca.1710. He may have gone to SC for a time after his mother's remarriage, but I believe he may have lived his last years in Moore Co., NC, in the area where his brother William lived. Another brother, Mark, lived in Orange Co., NC. Have you any records of Joseph ? I would love to know if I descend from him...or one of the other brothers. A brother Nathan Morgan lived out his life in Onslow Co. , I think. I know that my GGG grf. John Morgan died in Moore Co.,NC after making a will in late 1799.

I am in search of any information pertaining to Redding BOURDEN, Jr. (b. 1796, NC). We believe he is related to the BOURDEN family of Duplin County. He m. Frances R. LIPSEY (b. 1797, NC). This may have occured in Onslow County, NC. They moved to the Jones Co., GA area in the mid to late 1820's. However, they appear in a number of Onslow Co. records till 1830. Redding Jr.'s mother, Nancy (---)(BOURDEN) STEPHENSON--I am assuming that she re-married after Redding, Sr. died to a STEPHENSON --died in 1832. I have her will, as well as a number of other records that may be of interest to other researchers. I am willing to share this info. Redding, Jr. & Frances R. (LIPSEY) BOURDEN appear in the 1840 & 1850 Census records for Benton Co. (presently Calhoun), AL. Any help with this lineage is appreciated. Thank you!
