I am trying to locate a cemetery--it should be north east of Richlands,NC near Cowhorn swamp,Francktown,Hoffman forest,Huffmantown,Juniper ,Gum Branch,Jenkins branch or Jenkins swamp. Hopefully there are Rowes buried there. The last mention of the graveyard I have is in a deed dated 1832, in which James Gillespie Rowe sells land to a Franck, and excludes the family graveyard. It might not exist anymore. The Franck family still lives in that area, probably. I would also like to hear from people in and around Onslow county,NC named GILLESPIE,ROWE,SNEAD,SHACKLEFORD,MUMFORD,MORGAN,WRIGHT,DICKSON or Dixon,Mitchell, and Ballard--these names are mentioned in the will of Gaius Rowe who died 1813 near Richlands. Has anyone come across the name Gaius before? In some of his deeds,he is called Gains and Gaines Rowe.

m#WARRENWARREN posted by Bob Lehto on Monday, June 9, 1997

I have traced my wife's ancestors back to Montgomery (Emanuel) County Georgia in the early 1800s. "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia" says that Hinche WARREN b. 1740 in North Carolina d. 1803 in Montgomery County Georgia, and James WARREN b. 1745 in North Carolina d. 1821 in Montgomery County Georgia, served as Revolutionary War soldiers in Onslow County North Carolina before coming to Georgia. In addition there may have been another James WARREN with them (father?). My wife is descended from James WARREN. "The Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in North Carolina" does not show them. Could they have been militia?

Does anyone have any linkages to these men in North Carolina? Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look next? I am newly come to research in North Carolina. I can trade extensive WARREN linkages in Georgia and Florida.

a#CARRINGTONCARRINGTONa#COLLINSCOLLINSm#ODUMODUM posted by Ann V. Davis on Saturday, June 28, 1997

Onslow County might have been the original place for settlement of some of my husband's ancestors. His great-grandmother was Mary COLLINS who first married Elisha ODUM. They moved to New Bern and owned a home and several apartments on Pollock St. I do not know what happened to Elisha, but Mary later had a daughter by the name of Ida, whose father was J. David CARRINGTON. I have found no death record for Elisha, no marriage record for Mary Collins Odum and J. D. or David Carrington. Ida went by Odum some of the time and Carrington some of the time. Her death records in 1941 (New Bern) listed him as her father. I think someone told me that either the Collins family or the Odum family came from Onslow. Anyhow, how is this for a kettle of fish. This is where I began well over 20 years ago and I still have not solved the mystery. But have entered 15,500+ names in my database and published a book in 1995 on my family (Veazey-Veasey). Something accomplished anyhow. Thanks for any help from any of your group. Ann Veazey Davis

It seems to me there should be a connection with the three surnames KING, SYLVESTER and SHEPARD. My connection comes in with Jacob KING SHEPARD my gggrandfather who is mentioned in his grandfather's [James KING, Sr.] will probated 1837 in Onslow County. Jacob KING SHEPARD [b.1823] is the only grandson mentioned in the will. Children mentioned are daughters Belinda KING, Murinda KING and Ava KING, sons John B. KING, Jesse W. KING, daughters Elizabeth CRAFT, Mary SYLVESTER, Rachel PETTEWAY, and son Jacob R. KING. James KING, Sr.'s wife mentioned in the will is named "Mosley." I have wondered if Jacob KING SHEPARD was the son of Mary KING SYLVESTER who married first a George SHEPARD. Jacob K. SHEPARD named his children James, Jacob, K.S., Bannister, Riley and Sylvester. Jacob and his second wife, Milly RITTER SHEPHERD SHEPARD, married lived and died in Onslow county. Jacob is buried in the Ivy SHEPARD Cemetery in Onslow County. Does any of this information sound familar to you? Do you think I have a connection with the Mary KING SHEPARD SYLVESTER possibility? Jacob K. SHEPARD was born Nov 1822. George SHEPARD's will was witnessed 29 Aug 1822 and probated 1823 in Onslow County. Any assistance, suggestions, etc. you are able to provide will be greatly appreciated.
