I am researching the ROE/ROWE families of NC. In Onslow co.,there was Christopher ROWE who had a daughter Mary. Mary married Hezekiah JONES before 1768. In Onslow was Gaius or Gaines ROWE. He had a son James G.ROWE. Gaius was married into the SNEAD,GILLESPIE,AND SHACKLEFORD families. James married Margaret JOHNSON,daughter of Wm.JOHNSON,the supreme court justice, and in 1832,James went to Edgefield Dist.,S.C.. In Onslow there was a reference to Henry ROE who left orphans Richard,Elizabeth, and Walter ROE. In Onslow was James ROWE,my ancestor. .We have not proved who his parents were. He was born ca1759,served in the Rev.War,enlisting in Craven co.,and later enlisting in New Hanover. His pension request says he was from Onslow. He married Annie HOWARD 1794 in Onslow. They had sons James , and Christopher Howard ROWE,and a daughter Mary "Polly" ROWE. In 1944,a family member wrote that Polly married a Mr.,MCDANIELS and went to Twiggs co.,Ga.. Her father first married Kesiah RUSSELl and had a son Jesse by her.We cannot prove that. Polly's brother,James, married Rebecca SHELFER. We located his family in Ga. The only other Gaius Rowe I have found was in CT. ,born ca1761. If anyone can add to my info, please let me know. I am interested in all references you might have found on the ROE/ROWE name. Thanks, Carrie Rowe
