I am seekinginformation on: WOOD(Edward) who appears on several New Hanover Co. deeds in 1750's to 1760's with my ancestors. I am interested also in Peter WOOD and a William WOOD. William's had a wife by the name of Rebecca. My ancestors were BRINSON. A John BRINSON married a Charity WOOD ca Jan 1799 in Duplin Co, N.C. and they shortly thereafter moved to Sumter District, S. m#TOWTOWm#TOWETOWEm#TOWLETOWLE posted by Wayne Bixler on Monday, December 9, 1996

I am trying to find anything that I can on the TOW famly. The 1784-87 NC Census listed a Joseph TOW and an James TOWE in Onslow Co. Joseph was listed as a taxpayer in Onslow in 1771. The 1790 Census lists Joseph, William, and Deborah TOW (Pg. 32) in Perquimans Co., with an Abigail (Pg. 196) in Onslow. The 1800 Census lists Joseph, Deborah, and John (649,650,651) in Perquimans, and Abigail in Onslow. Later censuses, of course list a growing number of the TOW family in NC in Beaufort and Buncombe Cos. By about 1835, a number of the famly moved to IN, which is my branch. I had thought they might have beenQuakers (although there is no family record to indicate that), but they are pretty elusive to find in any records. I found a bog book at the library on TOWLE, but I don't think there is any connection. The earliest TOW records are in VA (Northumberland Co.) and MD (Calvert and Talbot Cos.) from 1652-1693. The migration from VA to NC would seem to fit.

Hi my name is Alice Westerberg and I have been researching the surname of GARNER for 8 years now. I have been stuck for this long too! My ggg grandfather stated that he was born in 1787 Roan or Rowan NC. He lived there for a short while and then went to VA. By 1805 his sister married a John WOOTEN in Williamson Co. TN. They were living by 1808 in Randolph Co. IL. The names that I believe are connected are: GARNER, WOOTEN, MOFFETT, PIERCE, DAVIS and possible PARRISH and GILLS. If anyone is researching any of these lines, please contact me. YOU NEVER KNOW.

Researching the HEWITT families of Onslow Co., NC. The earliest families I know of are those of John and Mary HEWITT and Thomas and Elizabeth (WHITEHURST) HEWITT, who were in the county by the 1760s. I suspect that John and Thomas were brothers. Have a substantial amount of information on these families and their descendants, but there are many details that need to be filled in as well. Would like to hear from anyone who has an interest in these families. Known intermarriages include surnames PITTS, WEEKS, WHITEHURST, WATSON, and WILLIAMSON, Descendants of John and Mary include include John, Thomas, and Sarah (m WEEKS); children of son John are believed to be Rigdon, Ellenor, Willett, Desire (m, MITCHELL), and Dempsey.
