Will of Elizabeth (Aldridge) Ward Original will in NC State Archives This will is not in that bad a shape, and not to hard to transcribe. Cray Mary Cray Sarah Erichson Negroes Lannon Derry In the name of God Amen------------------------------- I Elizabeth Ward of No. Carolina, Onslow County, Widow being at present in health and of disposing mind and memory-But calling to mind the uncertainty of life and knowing that I must die - do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following -- Cheif of all I commend my sould to God my Creator -- and my body to be decently buried. Trusting for the salvation of the one and the resusection of the other, Thro the Alone merritts of Christ Jesus my dear Redeemer. And as for my worldly goods with which it hath pleased god to bless me - I dispose of the same as follows-- first. I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin Ward one half of all my tools of ever sort, one large iron pott, one large green rugg. 2. I give to my son Enoch Ward one silver ______ now in his possesion wt. Capt. Lynn brot an also that pr. handirons in the outward room. 3. I give and bequeath to my son Seth Ward a negro man slave named Lannon and my two horses called Drummer and Tobee - and the other half of all my tools. Third I also give to my said son Seth my chamber, hand irons, two middling pewter dishes & 1/2 doz. S____ plates--a large whale kettle, my standing?? bedsteads and a blue rugg - and two cows & calves and a three year old heifer and all the home plantation hoggs. 4. I give to my daughter Martha Simmons one large pewter dish. 5. I give to my daughter Dorothy Ward my great chest, my mourning gound and coat & weiring hatt, my laced clock, a shift apron and handkerchief and three cows & calves- 6. I give to my daughter Ann Granade three cows & calves - one chints gown, a shift apron and handkerc - 7. To my daughter Mary Williams I give my satten gound and blue quilt, shift apron & handkerc. 8. To my daughter Elizabeth Hadnot my horse Jumper, saddle and bridle - two cows & calves, the half of my hoggs at Bear head in his care, a feather bedd, a pr. sheets & a blankett and my black clocke, my loom and the furniture belonging. ninthly. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ruth Strange my horse Jock, six cows and calves - my New bedd, chest, one feather bedd a pr sheets and a rugg & my spotted gound, two dishes and six plates pewter. 10th. I give to my daughter Obedience Hadnot my horse called Brittan. 11. I give and bequeath to my grandson Solomon Ward one negro man slave named Derry, one new feather bedd-one pair sheets and a good blankett, two cows and calves and a two year old heifer and the other equel half of all my hoggs at Bear head in care of Bettey Hadnot, she and he to share the whole him and his heirs for ever. 12. I give to my grandson Edward, son of Benjm. Ward two-2 year old heifers. 13. I give to my grandson Richard, son of Richard Ward one cow & calf & a 3 year old heifer. 14. I give to my grandson Aldridge Hadnot, son of Whithurst Hadnot six cows and calves. 15. I give to my grandaughter Zilpha daughter to Enoch Ward, two cows and calves and a yearling heifer and 1 pr sheets. 16. I give my grandaughter Elizh. Ward daughter of Enoch, two cows & calves and a yearling heifer and one pr. sheets. 17. As to my crop of corn & and turpentine, I further give to my grandson Solomon five barrells of the corn - and to my daughter Ruth Strange I give five barrells corn - And the risdue of the whole of the crop of turpentine, corn, peases etc. I order to be sold at vendue and the net proceeds after paying Capt. Lynn for the ballance due on Enochs sword, the ballance to remain in Seth Wards hands to be by him paid to his sister Mary Williams. 18. And further I give to my three sons Benj, Enoch & Seth - one half of my male cattle not mentioned in this will to be equaly divided, one third of said half to each son. 19. And the other half of my male cattle is to be equaly divided between my six daughters, Martha, Dorothy, Ann, Elizt, Ruth, Obedience. 20. I further give and leave all my wearing apparel - all my pewter, all my house hold goods and every other article wt. is missed?? or no way mentioned in this will to my said six daughters, share and share alike. 21. But further I _____ & give all my horses ____ that can be catch and is not here mentioned to my four daughers, Ann, Eliz, Ruth & Obedience. And lastly I constitue and appoint my two sons Benj. and Seth, executors of this my last will and revoke all other wills and declare this only to be my last will and testament in witness I have sett my hand & seal this 28 day of Mar 1767.
