Ransom, Morris

BAYONNE, N.J. - Morris E. Ransom (Mike) 84, of Bayonne, N.J., died Friday, May 30,
2008, at home with his family after a short battle with cancer.

O'Brien Funeral Home, 984 Avenue C, Bayonne, N.J. Funeral services will be held Saturday,
June 7, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude's
Cemetery located in Colonia, N.J.
Morris Ransom was a native of New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in June of
1942, at the age of 18, served in World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War and retired in
June of 1972. While in the Marines, he rose through the ranks from private to captain, a
tribute to his determination, leadership and natural gift with people.
From 1968 to 1972, he was given the duty of casualty officer for the Tri-state area. This
difficult assignment required him to notify the family members of loved ones who had been
killed in the line of duty and to help coordinate their loved one's funeral arrangements. In this
capacity, he always managed to help the grieving families cope with their pain because of his
own boundless kindness and understanding. He retired as a captain.
Morris Ransom married Marlys Christopher in 1945. This marriage was dissolved in 1974. In
1974, he was united in marriage to Teodora Estanislao.
After his 30-year military career, Morris Ransom worked for Sealand Container Corp., and later
for Puerto Rico Marine Management as a quality control consultant, traveling domestically
and internationally to various container cargo firms.
He was also an active member of St. Henry's Catholic Church.
Morris Ransom died as he lived: with a mixture of quiet strength that radiated from within him,
and a gentle, unspoken kindness that was felt by everyone whom he came into contact with in
his life.
Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Dorie; his parents, Charlotte and William Wallace
Ransom; his brothers, Jim, Bill and Harvey; his sister, Eloise; and his granddaughter, Angela
Brooks.

12 grandchildren, Suzanne Jacobs, Morris Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, Marlysa Brooks, Jesse
Ransom, Cory Ransom, Casey Ransom, Erin Conway, Dan Conway, Alex Soto and Amanda
Soto. Morris Ransom is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
