monumental presence will be forever missed.

Russell Family Cemetery in Bear Creek, officiated by the Rev. Robert Hall.
Poppa first and foremost loved his family, friends, hunting buddies, farming
and life. He graciously loved people and they loved him back.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Johnnie; his daughters, Jo Provost of Swansboro, Beckie Street of Swansboro and Pattie Cox of Manteo; grandsons, Bryan Salmons and wife, Heather of Bear Creek and Baker Street of Orlando, Fla.; his sister, Kathryn Hilger of Maryland and her daughter, Kathleen of Hawaii. He is also survived by the nephews and niece of his late brothers, Jackson, Rusty, Billy, Meta, Neil Jr., John and Matt and their families.
He was also predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Kathleen Provost; brothers,
Jack, Edward and Neil; son-in-law, Peter Street; and great-grandson, Jackson
Salmons.
He loved the outdoors. He farmed and he hunted. He was voted Master Farmer in
1998 and was a former president of The New Bern Gun Club. He loved the
community where he was born and raised. He was the first president of the
Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
He was helpful and giving to many. Gone are his kind words and strong stature
but always there will be gratitude and warmth in our hearts for all he has
done and taught us. Poppa, you are our hero!
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral
Home in Swansboro.
Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Joseph L. Beasley
Memorial Fund, in care of Swansboro High School in memory of Garland Provost.
The family would like to render their heartfelt thanks to Poppa's many devoted
caregivers and especially to our beloved Ms. Addie.
